Less Pain, More Meaning and Comfort: The Need to Enhance Paediatric Palliative Care in the West Bank of Palestine

This article focuses on the challenges and current state of paediatric palliative care (PPC) in the Palestinian territories, particularly the West Bank. It highlights limited access to specialised PPC services, shortages of trained healthcare professionals, inadequate education in palliative care, and significant barriers caused by political restrictions, financial burdens, and fragmented healthcare infrastructure. The article emphasizes the ethical imperative of equitable PPC access as a fundamental human right and proposes practical steps such as enhanced training, improved medication availability, home-based care support, and coordinated national frameworks to strengthen PPC delivery. It also notes the impact of ongoing conflict in Gaza on healthcare resources and underscores the need for culturally sensitive, family-centred approaches tailored to the region’s unique humanitarian context.
