Completed 2024 · Hospital Infantil Albert Sabin · Brazil

CountryBrazil
Clinical focusService Development

This experience report describes the development and maintenance of a pediatric palliative care service at Hospital Infantil Albert Sabin, a tertiary public pediatric hospital in Ceará, Brazil. The service began in 2017 as a consultative multidisciplinary team involving physicians, nursing, psychology and social work. The report examines the service’s implementation, challenges in changing professional and family perceptions, and the continuing need for earlier referral to palliative care. By sharing practical lessons from this experience, the study aims to support the development of integrated, multidisciplinary and family-centred pediatric palliative care services in similar settings.
